My woodcarving adventure started in 1992 when I attended a wood “working” show with my family in Charlotte, N.C. We met some men with the Charlotte Woodcarvers, I asked a few questions, and decided to give it a try. I thought it would be a good hobby for my 14 year old son, and something we could do together. After attending the Charlotte Woodcarving Show, learning of the Davidson County Woodcarvers in our area, and my wife enrolling me in a beginner’s class at the local community college, I was addicted. My son did not continue, but enjoys seeing the carvings created out of wood. I have always worked with wood in some form or another, whether it be carpentry or making furniture of some type. I have learned tremendously from being associated with other carvers, and as my wife has told others, “It keeps him out of trouble”. She also enjoys seeing the finished pieces, but I have not been able to get her to try one yet.
